Embracing Sexual Wellness and Intimacy with Age

Happy Couple - Sexual Health - Benton Integrative Medicine Huntersville NC

Embrace the exciting changes as we age! Instead of resisting, let's welcome the wisdom and creativity that accompany this stage of life. One area often neglected and sometimes embarrassing to discuss is sexual wellness. As we age we may experience the following:

  • Arousal and genital sensitivity which could be caused by hormonal fluctuations.

  • Medical conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, and medication side effects can impact sexual function.

By approaching intimacy with patience and love, we can discover new ways to make our connection even more fulfilling than ever before.

Communication Is Key

Of course communication is key for our every day relationships so as a couple, this will be what brings us closer. Conscious communication, which is thinking of each other and oneself in the highest light, can bring into clarity what can enhance desires, settle concerns, and learn each other’s preferences. Being open about fears or insecurities can help foster understanding and create space for mutual support and exploration.

Physical Health

Prioritizing physical health can help maintain function or even improve function.

Engaging in regular exercise, eating a balanced diet and managing stress can enhance

vitality and libido. Make sure hormones are optimized and your blood sugar levels are

in health ranges to support healthier aging.

Embrace Intimacy With Age

When we were younger everything seemed to work automatically and it was easier to meet our expectations. As we age we may need to redefine what we consider as intimacy. I find that so many men’s “manhood” is wrapped up in how effective their erection is. A woman sees her man has much more to offer than just that! Remember though, sensation is still intact and may offer another “flexible” way of pleasure to enjoy. Learning to flirt and have foreplay all day and eye gazing is intimate! Bring the play back into the relationship. Cuddling, non sexual touch, words of affirmation, kissing are all ways of bringing the magic into the relationship even when our body parts are choosing to go a different direction.

Adapting to change, experimenting with new sexual techniques, alternative forms of pleasure can reignite passion and creativity. Embracing this as a couple can strengthen the emotional and soul connection between partners.

Navigating aging or physical issues in a conscious relationship is a journey worth exploring. If we can shift our perspective from the struggle to curiosity, then that can be a game changer! If you need further assistance, we can help you with our sexual health services of GAINSWave for Him and Her, P-Shot and Oh-Shot. We also have a hormone specialist on board, Catie Westra, to assist you with hormone optimization. If you are still struggling, it might we helpful to involve a sex therapist to assist you with any mental blocks that you may have. The end goal is for you as a couple to have the most joyous and sacred connection with one another.

Peace and Love,
